Challenge
Siemens Poland has identified a need for a dedicated communication module for the Siemens MAG6000 Flow Meter that operates on PROFINET industrial network. The new communication module, expands the portfolio of existing Siemens MAG6000 communication methods to include PROFINET, an industrial Ethernet standard designed for real-time data collection and equipment control in industrial automation applications.
Responsibility of NOITAC team
The team implementing the solution was responsible for the module’s design, starting with the board and enclosure schematics, programming the algorithm for downloading, updating and editing data in the measurement transmitter, as well as full production documentation.
The team also ensured that the final product complied with the requirements of the EMC directives and harmonized standards needed to sell the cards within the European Union. The team produced prototypes that allowed users to check the functional performance of the cards and were used for pre-certification testing. After passing EMC type testing, the team produced and delivered complete products to the customer.

Result
A SI-PROFINET communication module has been created for the Siemens MAG6000 Flow Meter, which allows data to be extracted from the said device and made available on PROFINET using Ethernet. Siemens, thanks to the created module, can be used in all water nodes and buildings equipped with PROFINET. The solution allows the customer to reduce the number of intermediate devices (numerous gateways) that were previously needed to make the data from the MAG6000 Flow Meter visible on the PROFINET network, which translates into a lower cost on the customer side.
