Case study
Challenge
Diehl Metering France, in cooperation with the NOITAC team, identified a need for a single power supply that would allow powering the heat meter and the communication module manufactured by NOITAC. The customer’s current solution allowed the use of a mains-powered power supply (230 V) for the heat meter only. To power the communication module, an additional power supply was needed, which had to be purchased by the end customer. The new solution expands the portfolio of existing ways to power Diehl’s Sharky 775 and Scylar INT8 heat meters by allowing the use of only one power supply.
Responsibility of NOITAC team
The solution implementation team was responsible for the design of the new power supply approach, starting with the board and enclosure schematic, as well as full production documentation. The design of the new power supply had to take into account the current Diehl Metering solution.
The team also ensured that the final product complied with the requirements of EMC as well as LVD harmonized directives and standards needed to sell power supply equipment in the European Union.
The team produced prototypes that allowed users to check the functional performance of the power supplies and were used for pre-certification testing. After passing EMC and LVD type tests, the team manufactured and delivered complete products to the customer.

Result
A DM-PSU power supply unit for Diehl’s Sharky 775 and Scylar INT8 devices has been developed, which allows powering the customer’s device as well as the Modbus RTU communication module manufactured by NOITAC. The solution allows the customer to reduce the number of devices powering the heat meters as well as the communication modules. Instead of two power supplies, one is used in this case, which translates into a lower cost on the customer’s side.
